Ida has once again become a tropical storm and is likely to reach Cat. 1 hurricane force late today or early on Sunday.
Her forward motion is likely to increase, but her intensity will weaken as she moves farther northward into the cooler waters of the north Gulf. Increasing wind shear should also factor into weakening her and Ida will become more like a coastal winter storm as she nears the Louisiana coast early on Monday.
Our latest VIPIR Model run this AM brings her circulation just east of the mouth of the river moving inland near Gulfport/Biloxi Monday afternoon. Impacts locally will be increasing winds(20-30+ mph on land, 25-45+ offshore) & tides (2-3' above normal) with some heavy downpours (1-3" in LA, 3-5" in MS).
Ida will become absorbed in a cold front with rapid clearing on Tuesday. A Coastal Flood Watch will likely be changed to a Flood Warning later tomorrow.
