Late this afternoon Jefferson Parish filed a lawsuit against FOX 8 News reporters Val Bracy and Lee Zurik and The Times Picayune.
The parish is requesting a judge to issue a protective order to relieve Jefferson Parish from producing documents FOX 8 is seeking thru a public records request. The documents involve Whitmer.
But the parish is arguing the documents are related to an ethics board opinion request and are under an active subpoena by the US Attorney's Office and the FBI and should be kept confidential.
The case was assigned to Jefferson Parish Judge Henry Sullivan. Sullivan's wife is a member of the West Jeff Medical Center Board. The board approved an employee insurance contract with a company that shared profits with a company Whitmer owns. The judge says he has not yet seen the lawsuit and that his wife was not on the board when the issues in questions occurred.
