Westwego - Governor Bobby Jindal said Wednesday that he will veto any tax increases lawmakers approve during the upcoming legislative session.
Jindal said he expects some lawmakers to try to raise taxes given the state's money problems.
Jindal said he will also push for more accountability from public schools from pre-kindergarten to higher ed. Jindal is demanding higher retention rates at state colleges.
Jindal spoke to hundreds of political and community leaders at the annual West Bank Governor's Luncheon at the Alario Center.
State legislators are bracing for a battle over where spending should be cut for the new fiscal year.
Veteran State Senator John Alario said a top priority will be sparing education and health care services from further cutbacks as Louisiana is forced to tighten its belt.
Representative Jeff Arnold said in addition to dealing with the state's spending plan he will push hard to have traffic cameras banned statewide.
Arnold said drivers who get ticketed are not getting the "due process" they deserve and he said privacy is also compromised by the electronic devises positioned at intersections.
