New orleans -- Blues musician Coco Robicheaux has died.

A close friend of the musician tells FOX 8 News that Robicheaux had a heart attack while visiting the Apple Barrel bar on Frenchman Street Friday night.  He was rushed by ambulance to Tulane Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

Robicheaux's given name is Curtis John Arceneaux.  He was born in 1947 and raised in Ascension Parish.

Robicheaux gained wide acclaim for his swampy, spiritually-influenced brand of guitar blues.  His biography notes that he was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame two years ago.

He also appeared in several movies and TV programs, including HBO's "Treme".
