Metairie - An overnight fire at Riverside Apartments in Metairie is being classified as aggravated arson.

The fire started around 2:00 Sunday morning, when two cars caught fire behind the complex and then spread to the building. Nine apartments were damaged beyond repair. As of right now there are no suspects in the case.

"The fire is under investigation. At the same time that this happened there was a fire across the street at another complex that was definitely an arson case," said George Rigamer, Jefferson Parish Fire Departemnt public information officer.

One fire fighter was injured but is expected to be okay. Nine families consisting of about 40 people were displaced due to the fire.
