New Orleans - Less than 24 hours after Ochsner announced it was halting operations at its Elmwood fertility clinic, an attorney for second couple speaks out.
A Lafourche parish family is angry and afraid that they may have a child and not know. A second couple has filed a lawsuit alleging that the Ochsner fertility clinic in Elmwood mishandled, mislabeled and improperly stored and embryo.
Kim and Abraham Whitney issued a statement through the attorney Melanie Lagarde.
Lagarde says "they want to know what happened to their embryos, they were hopeful that these embryos would be their future children and would be siblings for their only child."
The Whitneys are named in one of two lawsuits filed against Ochsner fertility clinic after the alarming news. Oschner's CEO, Doctor Patrick Quinlan says that the audit shows that frozen embryos may have been mis-labeled.
Friday, the hospital system suspended all programs at its Elmwood facility. Ochsner officials say no embryo was mistakenly implanted.
Chief Executive officer Doctor Patrick Quinlan also issued this statement Saturday afternoon: "We will let the legal process run its course, maintaining our focus on our patients, the audit of our IVF center, and the transition of care for patients to alternate facilities."
