NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A jury in the retrial of a former New Orleans police officer asked the judge today for a tape measure. In their second day of deliberations, jurors wanted to see how far Henry Glover was from David Warren when he was shot. The judge ordered the courtroom and hallway cleared to allow room to use the tape. Warren is accused of killing Glover in Hurricane Katrina's aftermath.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A study panel says Louisiana lawmakers should give up their authority to control college tuition costs and put limits on the state's free college tuition program called TOPS. The suggestions were approved today by a group of higher education leaders and students called the Tuition Task Force.

DENHAN SPRINGS, La. (AP) - The Denham Springs City Council has approved the levy of a new 1-cent sales tax in a new economic development district to help finance retail development across the street from Bass Pro Shops, just south of Interstate 12. The tax will take effect Jan. 1.
