State health budget boost threatened

Health care costs in the state budget appear to put it over its allotted amount.

The House budget committee says Governor Bobby Jindal's 2012-13 budget proposal includes a $679,000,000 increase in the Department of Health and Hospitals' budget. That raises state health costs to $9,000,000,000.

Some lawmakers are now asking DHH Secretary Bruce Greenstein to look at where he could cut spending.  The 2012-13 fiscal year begins July 1.
