Report: Audio tapes have Gregg Williams telling Saints players to injure 49ers

Updated:

New audio recordings surfaced late Tuesday in connection with the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal and they shed light on tactics employed by former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

A Yahoo! Sports report by Michael Silver highlights audio recordings of a profanity laced speech before the Saints January 2012 playoff game with the San Francisco 49ers.

The recording were released the night before Saints Head Coach Sean Payton and General Manager Mickey Loomis head to New York to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to discuss a possible appeal of their suspensions.

The speech was captured on tape by filmmaker Sean Pamphilon, who Silver said is working on a documentary on former Saints Special teamer Steve Gleason.

In the speech, which according to the report took place during a defensive meeting the day before the game, Williams made several references to targeting 49ers players

In the article, Silver points out one section of the recording, "We've got to do everything in the world to make sure we kill Frank Gore's head," Williams told the players. "We want him running sideways. We want his head sideways."

Later Williams goes on to say after talking about 49ers QB Alex Smith, "And we're gonna kill the [expletive] head. Every single one of you, before you get off the pile, affect the head."

Wide receivers Kyle Smith and Michael Crabtree, along with tight end Vernon Davis, are also mentioned in the tape.
