"Clean Sweep" planned for St. John Parish

LaPlace, LA -  St. John the Baptist Parish officials and members of civic improvement groups are gearing up for the Fourth Annual Clean Sweep event on Saturday, April 14, 2012.

Clean Sweep 2012 will consist of a parish wide clean-up day involving many government agencies, neighborhood associations, civic groups, schools, and churches.

Education materials, automobile litter bags, and T-shirts will be distributed to create awareness during the clean-up.

Recycling locations will be parish-wide, while supervised inmate crews will focus on drainage canals and roadways.

Parish leaders also plan to have abandoned buildings demolished, and litter enforcement will be emphasized.

In addition, Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day will be held in the Plaza LaPlace Shopping Center, located at 1921 Airline Highway in LaPlace.

Residents are encouraged to properly dispose of hazardous materials such as paint, tires, used oil, batteries, scrap metal, appliances, and electronics.

"Support for our beautification efforts is needed from residents and businesses parish wide, and we encourage local business owners join us and beautify their store fronts," said Parish President Natalie Robottom.

Following the clean-up event, free food, refreshments, and music will be provided in appreciation of the volunteer work and commitment to keeping St. John beautiful.

Groups and individuals are asked to sign up in advance online at www.sjbparish.com or call Dana at 985-652-9569 to reserve specific neighborhoods or public areas to clean.

Supplies can be picked up in advance on Friday, April 13th at  2:30 P.M. at the Percy Hebert Building or on Saturday, April 14 at the Highway 51 Park.
