Jobless claims rise slightly in Louisiana

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana has registered a slight increase in the number of newly unemployed seeking jobless payments.

The state Workforce Commission says there were 2,945 initial claims for the week ending March 31 - up from the previous week's 2,873.

For the comparable week ending April 2, 2011, the state recorded 3,591 first-time claims.

The four-week moving average of first-time claims decreased to 2,936 from the previous week's 3,026.

For the last week of March, those still looking for jobs filed for an additional 34,204 weeks of benefits - down from the previous week's 34,830. For the comparable week of 2011, the unemployed filed for an additional 44,100 weeks of payments.
