Lee Zurik and the WVUE investigative team won another national award Tuesday for their investigation into former Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Jiff Hingle and businessman Aaron Bennett, this time from The Society of Professional Journalists.
"Hiding Behind the Badge" was honored with a 2011 Sigma Delta Chi Award for Investigative Reporting in small market stations.
Photographer Donny Pearce, Producer Marcy Planer, News Director Mikel Schaefer and Assistant News Director Greg Phillips were also honored by the SPJ.
"Hiding Behind the Badge" marks the second consecutive SDX award for Zurik and the WVUE investigative team. Last year they were honored for their investigation into the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad.
This is also the second national award for the "Hiding Behind the Badge" series. Last week the Investigative Reporters and Editors awarded the investigation with a "Certificate" for the quality of the series of reports.
