Stuart Bell named LSU's new provost

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU has named Stuart R. Bell, dean of the School of Engineering at the University of Kansas, as the university's new executive vice chancellor and provost, effective Aug. 1, pending approval by the school's Board of Supervisors.

If approved, Bell will replace John Maxwell Hamilton, who held the post on a two-year appointment that began July 1, 2010.

Chancellor Michael Martin welcomed Bell on Thursday, saying his vision and experience "will continue the momentum of maintain the academic standards, quality education and research that Louisiana has come to expect from its flagship university."

Bell was one of four finalists for the position. He has served in higher education for more than 25 years and has broad administrative experience encompassing departmental, school/college, university and system activities.
