A team of scientists say new research could change the future of breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and survival.
A group from the Molecular Taxonomy of Breast Cancer International Consortium, METABRIC, analyzed the genetic makeup of nearly 1,000 tumors
They monitored their genetic details, studying both gene mutation and their specific activity.
Then the scientists compared that data to a woman's age at diagnosis and their long term survival rates.
METABRIC was able to identify 10 classifications of tumors based on their genetic fingerprints.
These categories range from very treatable to extremely aggressive.
