Allen family meets with coroner, retracts shooting claim

Loved ones of a man killed by an NOPD officer say a meeting with the Orleans Parish Coroner gives them confidence that Wendell Allen was not shot in the back.

Last week, Allen's family questioned whether Allen was shot in the chest because an embalmer's report showed there was a hole in Allen's back.

Monday, Allen's mother, other relatives and family counsel Lon Burns met with Coroner Frank Minyard to get his assessment of how Allen died.  As a result of the meeting, they say they have confidence that the NOPD is conducting a thorough investigation.

Officer Joshua Colclough shot and killed Allen last month while officers served a narcotics search warrant on a home in Gentilly.  Allen was not armed.
