Police seek owner of pit bull that attacked girl

Covington, La. - The Covington Police Department is searching for the owner of a pit bull that attacked an 8 year-old girl on April 17th.

A spokesman for the Covington PD says officers were notified by the St. Tammany Parish Hospital Emergency Room that the child was in the ER being treated for dog bites.

They stated the juvenile had been bitten by a pit bull. The 8 year-old had been bitten on both arms multiple times.

Other Officers went to the scene of the attack and found a large tan pit bull dead at the intersection of West 29th Avenue and North Van Buren Street. Witnesses told officers that several people had beaten the dog with a metal pole to get the dog to let go of the child.

St. Tammany Animal Control was called to take possession of the dog to check for rabies.

Officers are trying to find the owner of the dog. If anyone knows the owner of the large tan pit bull that attacked the 8 year old girl they are asked to call the Covington Police Department ( 892-8500 ) or Crimestoppers ( 1-877-903-STOP ).
