Bob Barker expanding Chimp Haven in Louisiana

New Orleans, La.  - Animal activist and retired game-show host Bob Barker is opening a new area at Chimp Haven, the national chimpanzee sanctuary in northwest Louisiana.

The 88-year-old Barker donated $380,000 to create a space for five chimps from a sanctuary that closed in Texas because of overcrowding and lack of money. Other sanctuaries took the rest of its animals. But none would take these, because they're infected with the HIV virus.

Barker said he learned about the chimps from his friend Nancy Burnet (bur-NET), president of United Activists for Animal Rights. They flew out together from California to see the new habitat opened for the chimps, named Doc, JoJo, Murphy, Flick, and Pierre.
