12-year-old injured in I-310 accident Sunday morning

Updated:

KENNER, La. (AP) - Louisiana State Police say a driver and a 12-year-old boy were injured when their 2010 Ford Mustang got pinned between a tractor-trailer and an exit divider.

Trooper Melissa Matey says 32-year-old Dorothy Compton of Destrehan was seriously injured Sunday, the boy suffered moderate injuries and 63-year-old trucker Jerry Smith of Florence, Miss., was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

She says Compton and Smith - whose trailer was empty - were both leaving Interstate 310 where it splits into Interstate 10 East and West. Matey says the drivers gave conflicting statements, and more investigation is needed. She says the car was new enough to have a crash data recorder, which investigators will check.

The wreck closed northbound lanes of I-310 from about 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
