Impairment suspected in fatal Sunday morning crash

St. Helena Parish, La.- Police are investigating a single vehicle crash that claimed the life of 36-year-old April Rock early Sunday morning in St. Helena Parish.

The crash took place around 2 a.m. west of Greensburg.

Investigators say the crash occurred as Rock was traveling east on LA 1042 in a Ford F-250 pickup truck when the vehicle drifted off road to the right for unknown reasons.

As the truck left the roadway, Rock tried to get back onto the road causing the truck to cross both eastbound and westbound lanes of LA 1042 before running off road on the north side of the highway.

Police say after leaving the road for the second time, the truck struck several large trees with its front end before coming to rest facing a northerly direction.

Investigators say Rock was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Rock was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident by the St. Helena Parish Coroner's Office.

Troopers suspect that Rock was impaired at the time of the crash and obtained a blood sample for toxicology analysis at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.

The crash is still under investigation.
