Teen pulled from Lake Pontchartrain Monday dies

New Orleans, La. - The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office confirms the teen pulled from Lake Pontchartrain Monday afternoon has died. He is identified as 17 year-old Shone Badon.

The coroner has not released an official cause of death yet, but spokesman John Gagliano says it appears as if he drowned. He died late Monday night.

The incident happened near the UNO Research Facility.

A group of teenagers were swimming when the 17 year-old boy went under water and didn't come back up.

His friends say they began screaming for help when some bystanders ran into the water to try to save the boy.

Bystander Tammay Murray says the water in the area is about 18-feet deep and that the currents were strong.

Last month another 17-year old boy, Bilder Lopez drowned in the same area.
