Homeless man holds up gas station with water gun

Updated:

Slidell, La. - A 64 year old homeless man has been arrested after he allegedly tried to hold up a gas station in Slidell.  Slidell Police officials say Lazaro Gonzalez had been hired by the Shell Station in the 3200 block of Pontchartrain Drive to do cleanup work.  A clerk at the store says Gonzalez showed up on Monday to be paid.

The clerk says as she turned to get the money, Gonzalez stuck something in her back and requested all of the money from the register. When the clerk turned around, she saw him holding a purple water pistol in his hand.

The clerk then pushed the man out of the store.  A witness called police, following him behind  Southside Café.  Police arrived and after a brief struggle, Gonzalez was taken into custody.

Police recovered the purple water gun from a nearby dumpster. Gonzalez did not get any money from the clerk. He was arrested for Armed Robbery, Simple Battery and Resisting an Officer.
