Recycling is returning to Jefferson Parish

Metairie, La. - For the first time since Hurricane Katrina, Jefferson Parish will start providing weekly curbside recycling services to all residents in Unincorporated Jefferson Parish and the town of Jean Lafitte.  The service is scheduled to begin in early July 2012. Single and multi-family residences of four units or less will be provided with an 18-gallon bin in which to place recyclable materials.

Bin distribution by Progressive Waste Solutions of Louisiana (PWSLA) will begin on May 28th and continue through June. Additionally, PWSLA will provide a drop-off facility that will accept the same recyclable materials collected in the curbside program and will be available every other Saturday. The location and the hours of this operation will be announced as we get closer to the kick off date.

Jefferson Parish president John Young says, "I have been pushing for the re-establishment of curbside garbage recycling since I took office as Parish President and believe this is an environmentally sound and responsible action as well as making economic sense".
