13 year-old, 15 year-old arrested for armed robbery, murder

New Orleans, La. - The NOPD has arrested a 13 year-old and a 15 year-old just hours after they gunned down a local man Tuesday during an armed robbery attempt.

The shooting happened around 3pm at the intersection of Baudin Street and Carrollton.

Police say the teens walked up to 58 year-old Rafael Quintanilla who was sitting on the front steps of his home. The 13 year-old allegedly pointed a .380 caliber pistol at him and demanded that Quintanilla, "Give him everything".

Before Quintanilla could comply, the 13 year-old shot him in the stomach.  Quintanilla was taken to the hospital where he died Tuesday night.

Officers were able to get a description of the teenagers from witnesses.  Within minutes they apprehended the 15-year-old boy, who was easily recognizable because of his mohawk hairstyle.

Once he was taken into custody, he told detectives that the 13-year-old was the triggerman, and that he had been arrested before, and was wearing an ankle bracelet monitored by the Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff's Office.

Detectives were able to track down the teenager because of the bracelet, and picked him up in New Orleans East a short time after the shooting.
