Pink slips go out to Jefferson Parish school employees

Metairie, La. - Pink slips have gone out to workers in the Jefferson Parish school system.  A spokesperson says the layoff notices were sent on Wednesday to about 200 workers in the school's central offices.   The affected employees were all employed to do administrative-type duties on both the east and west bank of Jefferson Parish.

The layoffs are part of a reorganization plan approved by the Jefferson Parish School Board back in April.  Earlier this month, the school board approved closing four schools on the west bank and one on the east bank as it continues to deal with a budget deficit.
