I-55 crash leaves two people dead

Updated:

NATALBANY, La. - Two people were killed, both from Independence, in a single car crash on I-55 near Natalbany.

The accident occurred just before 7 p.m. Thursday about two miles south of the La. Highway 442 exit.   State Police say 19-year-old Brandon Sance and his passenger, 22 year old Kassie Toups were traveling in a 1991 Dodge Caravan when, for unknown reasons, the van drifted off the road, crashing into a guardrail.  Upon impact, the van overturned and continued forward, striking the overpass support column.

Both Sance and Toups were pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office.  Manale says both were wearing seatbelts and alcohol use is not suspected, although results of a toxicology test are pending.
