DOTD to set up portable toilets along evacuation routes

The Louisiana Department of Transportation listened to complaints after the hurricane Gustav evacuation and now plans to set up portable toilets in some locations along the contraflow route.

For traffic headed north on I-55, there will be portable toilets set up at the Kentwood rest stop for contraflow traffic headed north in the southbound lanes as well as at the Kentwood weigh station on the northbound side of the interstate.

In Slidell, portable toilets will now be available at the rest stops on Interstate 59 and Interstate 10.

The port-a-potties are needed at the rest stops even though there may already be restroom facilities because it is possible those rest areas may be closed during a storm.

People who evacuated after Gustav complained about being stuck in traffic for hours with no restrooms available.
