SLIDELL, La. (AP) - A fishing pier made from parts of the old Interstate 10 Twin Span bridge that crossed Lake Pontchartrain before it was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina is holding a grand opening Saturday that will feature a family fishing rodeo.
The rodeo begins at 5 a.m. Saturday and the weigh station will close at 2 p.m.
The pier is open to the public from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the summer and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the winter. To fish from the pier costs $3. To just walk on the pier and view the sights costs $1. Children under 12 are free.
The pier has been open since May 18.
