Reserve man dies in crash early Sunday morning

St. Charles Parish – Police responded to a crash around 3 a.m. Sunday on US 61 near Apple Street where two vehicles were involved in a head-on crash, killing 25-year-old Jeremy Fleming.

Investigators say pick-up truck, believed to be driven by 32-year-old Manuel Castro of Livingston, was traveling north in the south travel lanes of US 61, north of Apple Street, while 25-year-old Jeremy Fleming was traveling south on US 61 in the left lane.

Police say the pick-up truck struck the Fleming's vehicle head-on.  He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Fleming's passenger, 25-year-old Marcus Fleming of Garyville, was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

Castro was also transported to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries.

Police say due to Castro's statements on the scene, it is unknown at this time if Castro was driving the pick-up truck.  However, the truck will be tested for DNA evidence by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.

Blood was obtained from Castro and a toxicology analysis is pending.

Police say seat belts were not used by anyone in this crash.

The crash remains under investigation and criminal charges are also pending the outcome of the investigation.
