Crash claims life of 28 year old Independence woman

Tangipahoa, La. - State Police are investigating a single vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 28-year old woman from Independence, Louisiana. The victim has been identified as Glavis Garcia.

The accident happened around 6 pm Monday night on LA 442, approximately 2.5 miles west of Interstate 55.  A preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Garcia was traveling west on LA 442 in a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck when the vehicle drifted off road to the right. As Garcia attempted to reenter the roadway, she overcorrected to the left and then back to the right causing the pickup to rotate clockwise and overturn several times.

Garcia was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. She sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office.

The front seat passenger in the Chevrolet pickup, 26 year old Juan Hernandez, and an infant passenger, both of Independence, were properly restrained and received minor injuries in the crash.

Alcohol use is unknown at this time pending the results of a toxicology exam.
