Livingston school board cuts sick leave

LIVINGSTON, La. (AP) - The Livingston Parish School Board has voted to eliminate extended sick leave for all employees for the 2012-13 fiscal year, which begins July 1.

Superintendent Bill Spear told the board Thursday night the move will save the district approximately $1 million.

In addition, The Advocate reports the school district is heading into 2012-13 with a projected deficit of $4.6 million.

Spear said the $4.6 million deficit represents 2.7 percent of the general fund, according to the 2011-12 revised budget.

The board voted 8-0 to eliminate the leave days.
