NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Tulane University has opened a new neighborhood health clinic in New Orleans.
Tulane says the 11,000-square-foot facility based in the Mid-City neighborhood offers health care to New Orleans residents regardless of whether they have insurance.
In a news release announcing the opening Thursday, Tulane President Scott Cowen said the center is symbolic of "a renaissance in neighborhood-based care" following Hurricane Katrina.
The center is on the site of an old Ruth's Chris Steak House and its name honors the memory of the restaurant chain's founder, Ruth Fertel.
The full name of the center is the Ruth U. Fertel-Tulane Community Health Center and Brinton Family Health & Healing Center.
