Crime up slightly in Jefferson Parish

Gretna, La. - Crime statistics, released on Tuesday by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office show a slight increase in the number of crimes from this same time a year ago.  Rapes, robberies and thefts are in the rise, while some areas showed declines.  The biggest drop was in the number of murders, down 52% from 2011.  According to the JPSO, there have been 11 murders so far this year, compared to 23 from the same time period in 2011.  Below are the numbers released by Sheriff Newell Normand:
