Harahan, La. -

The city of Harahan got a visit from the U.S. Department of Justice Friday.  A DOJ investigator was there to discuss a decades-old court order that stems from discrimination violations.

A handful of Harahan emergency responders joined other city employees, Mayor Vinnie Mosca and concerned residents in a meeting with the Department of Justice.

DOJ senior trial attorney Rachel Hranitzky told the crowd she was there for the community's feedback.  She is evaluating whether the city is in compliance with a 1980 consent decree.

More than 30 years ago, the feds found that Harahan's fire and police departments, and 23 other Louisiana jurisdictions, violated federal law when it comes to hiring, firing and promotion practices.

The DOJ says it has already visited Covington, Houma and Kenner.  Justice officials say they hope to update the court on who is in compliance by the end of the year.
