Houma, LA - A child died after being struck by a vehicle that was backing out of a driveway in Houma. The incident occurred Saturday at 11:28 a.m. in the 200 block of Evelyn Avenue. The child has been identified as 16-month-old Jayce Salazar.
Police say that responding officers discovered that 30-year-old Sandra Lopez-Barragan was backing an SUV out of her driveway when she struck Salazar, who is her child.
Salazar was transported to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.
A chemical test showed that Barragan was not intoxicated. Barragan did not receive any traffic citations and no charges were filed due to the incident.
Officers will continue to investigate the incident.
