Animators protest Emmy decision

Updated:
Associated Press Associated Press

The people behind FOX's "The Family Guy" and "The Simpsons" have a big problem with Emmy producers.

They've joined dozens of animators protesting the Television Academy of Arts & Sciences's decision to allow "Community" to compete for an Emmy in animation categories.

"Community" occasionally adds an animated element to its programming.  But overall, it's a live action show.

Animators say this Emmy decision edges them out of opportunities for recognition for their work.

The academy issued a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, insisting its policy is fair.
