JP 911 operator arrested for shoplifting

Gretna, La, - A  911 operator for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office has been fired following a shoplifting incident on the west bank.  Sheriff Newell Normand says 21 year old Aariel Dorsey,  a JPSO dispatcher, was seen on video taking items off a store shelf and shoving them into another woman's purse.

The incident reportedly happened on June 13th at the Family Dollar located at 5949 Lapalco Blvd.

The store manager told Detective Nicholas J. Cottone she had video of two women  shoplifting in the store.  One of the suspects wore a  light blue JPSO uniform shirt.

Detectives questioned Dorsey two days later.  According to Normand, Dorsey admitted she was the person in the video wearing the JPSO uniform shirt.

Dorsey was issued a misdemeanor summons for shoplifting and has been fired from her job as a  911 operator.

Meanwhile, investigators have identified the second suspect has been identified as 26 year old Pia Dorsey, Aarial's aunt.  She was arrested and issued a misdemeanor summons as well.

Charges will be filed with the Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office.
