Metairie, La. — The state has issued a heads-up for drivers heading to and from New Orleans east this weekend.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) says there will be continuous weekend lane closures of Interstate 10 in the Irish Bayou area.
The I-10 lane closures will occur in both east and westbound lanes, affecting residents of New Orleans East, Slidell and travelers using I-10.
Drivers should expect heavy delays and should plan accordingly to use alternate routes.
DOTD officials say lane closures are necessary for concrete patching work and will begin Friday, June 22 and end on June 24, 2012.
The details are as follows:
I-10 Eastbound: between mile marker 251 (4 miles west of US 11) and 254 (1 mile west of US 11), will have right and center lane closures for concrete patching (continuous closure), Friday, June 22 at 8:00 p.m. to Sunday, June 24 at 6 p.m. The suggested alternate route is I-510 to US 90 to US 11.
