Updated:

New Orleans, La. - People who live in an Algiers neighborhood get credit for helping investigators arrest a 16-year-old suspected of a murder and a shooting.

Someone attacked two people last week in the 4300 block of Meadow Park Lane.

One of the victims died.

The other is in critical condition.

Investigators have taken a 16-year-old into custody for the crimes.

He's been booked with one count of second degree murder and one count of attempted second degree murder.

"The people of this neighborhood recognized this teenager's potential for more violence- and came to our officers to helping this investigation," said NOPD Superintendent Ronald Serpas.
