Baton Rouge, La. - The state plans to hold meetings next week on a rule change that will impact oyster fishermen.
The rule took effect in May. It requires the refrigeration of some oysters within a specific time frame, depending on the time of year they're harvested.
Officials say the change was made to ensure the state's oysters are safe to eat.
The state Departments of Health and Hospitals and Wildlife and Fisheries will host the meetings next Tuesday in Houma and Wednesday in Belle Chasse.
They're encouraging all fishermen, dealers and processors to attend.
