NOPD obtains warrant in Gentilly murder

New Orleans, La. - New Orleans Police have obtained an arrest warrant for 17-year-old Marquis Matthews in connection with the murder of 18-year-old Marc Canty III in Gentilly Friday afternoon.

Officers discovered Canty received multiple gunshot wounds in the backyard of a residence just after 4:00 p.m. in the 2100 block of Selma Street. Canty was able to identify Matthews over the phone as he spoke with Police while being chased on foot.

Witnesses came forward and gave a description of Matthews who has no arrest record and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Matthews will be charged with Second-Degree Murder once apprehended.
