Man who killed Mandeville mom sentenced to life in prison

The man who killed Samantha Jaume in Mandeville will go to prison for the rest of his life.

Wednesday morning Judge August Hand sentenced 32 year-old Dominic Robinson to life in prison without parole and waived his right to appeal.

St. Tammany District Attorney Walter Reed wanted the death penalty in this case and called this outcome a "bitter pill to swallow."

The case took a strange twist when the trial jury had to be dismissed before the sentencing phase because of the approach of hurricane Gustav in 2008.

Robinson was convicted of first degree murder for shooting Samantha Jaume in her Mandeville area home in 2001.

Robinson spotted Jaume and her children leaving a Wal-Mart store and followed them home to steal her SUV.

Samantha Jaume's husband released a statement saying, "Today my parents, step parents, siblings and children can breathe a sigh of relief and blessing. We know Samantha lives on through our children, love and memories. That is her legacy. And now I know, she can rest in peace."
