Newark, NJ - With the tenth overall draft pick, the New Orleans Hornets selected a very familiar face in Austin Rivers, a point guard from Duke. Coach Monty Williams played with and for Coach Doc Rivers, now with the Boston Celtics.
Rivers was among the first group of players to work out with the Hornets and talked effusively about his strong relation with Williams, who was around Austin frequently as a young boy. Williams referred to him as a "Dennis the Menace" type but went on to praise his basketball instincts and ability to evolve his skill set into that of a point guard or shooting guard.
Rivers averaged 15.4 ppg as a freshman at Duke with a 43.3% shooting percentage.
