(Fox News) - A group of holocaust survivors experience a night full of glamour and tiaras.

Twenty women ages 74 to 97 competed for the first "Miss Holocaust Survivor" pageant in Haifa, Israel Thursday.

The finalists were chosen based on their personal stories.

Physical appearance counted only 10%.

"We've been helping with the Haifa home for holocaust survivors for two and a half years now, and we've come to realize that these were people living in this home, who were Jewish children growing up in Nazi-occupied Europe. They got robbed of the boy scouts or girl scouts or proms and things like this that you and I enjoyed. And so if these ladies want to recapture something from their youth, something they missed, because of Nazi cruelty, I'm all for it" said David Parson, media director of the International Christian Embassy.

The winner was 78-year-old Hava Hershkovitz. She was banished from her home in Romania and sent to a Soviet detention camp for three years.
