Homeowner shot during home invasion

Covington, La. – A Covington man was shot early Thursday morning after confronting two people trying to invade his home.

It happened at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Thursday when the Covington Police Department responded to a report of an attempted home invasion at 214A East 33rd Avenue.

Police say Kim Dillworth, his girlfriend and her 3-year-old child were in the house at the time of the incident.

Investigators say two suspects were attempting to enter the house through a window at the front of the home when Dillworth's girlfriend heard them and woke up Dillworth.

Dillworth went to the front of the house and confronted the suspects as they were attempting to enter the residence.

The invaders fired shots at Dillworth and struck him one time in the side of his torso.

Dillworth was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released for his injuries.

Investigators recovered a firearm, along with several projectiles, at the scene of the crime.

At this time, investigators have no leads on who might have committed this crime.
