A safety construction project being done by the Federal Aviation Administration will force Louis Armstrong International Airport to close a runway for hours at a time and likely increase noise levels over parts of Kenner.

From 6:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday over a period of July 2 through July 31, 2012 runways 1 through 19 will be shut down. During the closure, all aircraft arriving and departing will be temporarily restricted to using the East/West runway.

The airport says local businesses and residents in Kenner and surrounding areas may experience an above average increase in aircraft noise.

These temporary closures are not expected to impact any airline operations or flight schedules.

The airport asks for the public's patience as the FAA completes the improvement.
