Grand Isle, La. - A temporary clamp was successfully installed on a damaged waterline that supplies all of Grand Isle's water. The line, which was struck by a vessel on Tuesday.was flushed and placed back into service, and has been successfully delivering water to the island since about 11:30 am on Wednesday.
Presently, plans are to shut down the line for a permanent repair tomorrow. Grand Isle officials believe water in storage should be adequate to meet demand for Thursday, as well as Friday, should that be necessary.
Meanwhile, a barge filled with water in Lafitte is heading to the island as added precaution in case there are any issues in completing the permanent repair.
With the line back in operation, Grand Isle authorities say customers should not notice any disruption or loss of pressure.
The leak was detected on Tuesday afternoon in the transmission line in Bayou Barataria spanning from lower Lafitte to Grand Isle.
With permanent repairs pending, island residents and visitors are urged to conserve water. reduce unnecessary water consumption by avoiding filling up pools or washing cars and boats.
