Woman accused of transporting illegal immigrants

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A 38-year-old Houston woman has been accused of transporting illegal immigrants through Louisiana.

Sonia Lisseth Suazo was arrested June 2 during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Port Allen, according to the Advocate.

Suazo faces trial Aug. 16 in Baton Rouge federal court on a charge that she illegally transported and harbored illegal immigrants. Suazo has pleaded innocent.

In an affidavit, Special Agent Richard V. Lovell charges that Suazo was on her fifth trip taking illegal immigrants from Houston to Miami and that she expected to be paid $2,500 for transporting the seven illegal immigrants.

Two of the illegal immigrants faced one count each of illegally re-entering the United States and five others faced deportation.
