Body discovered in backyard of bizarre car accident

Updated:

Jefferson, La. - The body of a Jefferson Parish man was found in his neighbor's backyard following a bizarre accident and car explosion.

The incident happened in the 300 block of Deckbar Avenue Thursday night.

According to investigators, the man, identified by family as James Williams, pulled into his driveway at around 10pm and then began making erratic motions with his pick-up truck. Williams knocked over a fence in his neighbor's yard and even hit a Jacuzzi.

Investigators believe the gas tank in the pick-up exploded, killing Williams.

The explosion also burned down a shed in his neighbor's yard and destroyed the back of the neighbor's home, and his own home.

Firefighters arrived to the scene Wednesday night, but never saw Williams' body. A neighbor cleaning up the debris Thursday morning found Williams' remains and called police.
