Hornets trade for Ryan Anderson

Updated:

New Orleans, LA - The New Orleans Hornets took another big step forward in the club's rebuilding efforts by agreeing to a trade with the Orlando Magic that would bring Ryan Anderson to New Orleans in exchange for Gustavo Ayon.

Orlando agreed to a sign and trade deal to move Anderson, who was a restricted free agent. The 6-foot-10 forward is entering his fifth year in the NBA. He started 61 games last year for the Magic, averaging 16.1 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game.

Ayon averaged 5.9 points per game, 4.9 rebounds in his rookie season with the Hornets last year. Prior to playing in New Orleans, the 27-year-old forward/center played in Spain's top pro league.

Anderson joins a lineup in New Orleans that includes rookies Anthony Davis and Austin Rivers.

The trade will be made official when the NBA's trade moratorium ends on July 11.
