Abita Springs, La. -  The town of Abita Springs will hold a special election to find a new mayor.

They are trying to fill the seat left vacant by current Mayor Louis Fitzmorris. In November of 2011, Fitzmorris was elected as the assessor for St. Tammany Parish. He will assume that position on January 1 of next year.

The town will hold the election on November 6, the same day as the presidential election. A runoff will be held December 8 if needed.  The winning candidate will fill the final two years left in Fitzmorris' term.

Qualifying for the special election begins August 15.
